Testimonials

Susan is not only an accomplished dancer and an excellent teacher...she truly loves what she does. She teaches from the heart. When you are in Susan's class, she is not only teaching your body, she is touching your life. Susan has the innate ability to teach the whole person. She touches that inner spirit within each of her students. The spirit is also there with her family of instructors that work at Tanze. They all go beyond just teaching the body. Susan is a devoted wife and mother. Her husband and two sons are very much apart of the "spirit" of Tanze and it is evident by their presence at the studio and in concerts. When you take a class at Tanze, you leave with your body and spirit renewed. Thank you Susan for making me a better person.

As a parent of a Tanze dancer of 5 years, I am witness to the artistic environment that Susan Moser provides to stimulate the right brain of her students and parents alike. The studio itself is welcoming with its scented candles, motivational messages everywhere, art displays and loft construction that allows watching classes without distracting students. The classes teach process–not just moves, not just dance steps, not performance, not perfection. Susan's dance curriculum of improvisation and modeling allows each student to figure out how creative and original they are. The costumes are earthly and modest and avoid engendering early messages of needing to be a sexual display. In-house studio performances allow each class to perform in a supportive environment without having to wait their turn and families to obtain an in-depth glimpse of everything that they have learned. The Tanze staff all share the same mission of finding the hidden artist within us all.

Tanze is a wonderful place. It is like a short vacation or a home away from home. There is so much love at Tanze. It consumes you.

–Deanna Sprague, dance student

I am a writer, not a dancer, but I have had the opportunity to work with Susan Moser in three distinctly different relationships. I have been her student when she taught Movement Improvisation Class at the Contemporary Dance Theatre. I was her collaborator when she created a dance and poetry performance together fro the Performance and Time Arts series in 2000 (p.t.a.). And, as a p.t.a. organizer, I have helped to produce shows in which she and her Tanze students have performed. Everyone in the CDT Improv Class loves the summer session Susan has done for us. As a teacher, she emphasizes spontaneity and personal creativity in the way that makes the classes both fun and supportive. Her teaching is always grounded on firm technical and theoretical principles, but also playful and welcoming in a way that makes everyone feel comfortable. As an artistic collaborator, I found Susan to be skilled, generous, and endlessly inventive. The works that she has choreographed for p.t.a.'s are ambitious, polished, and experimental on a level far beyond what one normally expects from "student work."

–F. Keith Wahle, poet, p.t.a. producer, CDT

For seven years, Tanze has been a meaningful part of our daughter's lives. Here they have always been treated with love and respect: they have learned the joy of dancing and movement which has in turn helped them grow in understanding and respect for themselves and the world around them. Susan and her staff are great role models. Coming to Tanze has always been on one of the best parts of our week! Our experience at Tanze has been completely unlike our previous experiences with another dance studio: rather than emphasizing rote memorization for a performance, here they are encouraged to learn and create...and to have fun!

–Karin Morris, mom

With Tanze I have found an impressively creative and uplifting environment for my daughters. They have discovered their love for dance and performing in a school that allows children to cherish and celebrate their childhoods and teenagers to grow with grace toward their young adult years. I am very uncomfortable with schools that push children to have full make-up, hair pieces and glitzy costumes: along with moves and lyrics that are no way age appropriate. You will not find that at Tanze. The moment I arrived at this school and met its warm and highly creative and spirited director, Susan Moser, I knew that I had found the dance school for my children. Her love and passion for dance are surpassed only by the joy she finds in watching her students developing talents and blossoming spirits. I can't thank her enough.

–Kathleen Stevens, mom

I have been participating in classes at Tanze for over six years. Tanze has helped me recover from a major back injury. The classes have made me strong, and given me so much pleasure and gave me many friends. I have been involved in the Step Aerobic classes, Tai Chi, Yoga, Cardio Dance, Adult Tap classes and Belly dancing. Tense' teaching staff is professional, encouraging and friendly. The dance and performing arts classes have expanded my appreciation of various art forms, and given me the chance to perform on stage. Many of the staff and students at Tanze have become my personal friends. Come and experience the "many dances" of Tanze.

–Robert Vollbrecht, fitness student

What a blessing Susan has been to our family! We are so fortunate to have found Tanze several years ago. Susan's nurturing spirit has captured my three daughters. She is enthusiastic, creative and extremely talented. Her lover for the arts and for the dancers is evident with each performance. Thank you Susan for enhancing the lives of our girls and especially for mentoring Marshauna.
