Susan
Moser
Owner and Artistic Director of
Tanze Performing Arts.
Susan received her dance education from Ohio State University. Following college,
she spent three years with the Valois Company of Dance at the University of Toledo
as a principle dancer. During her three year commitment to this dance company,
Susan received her license in Fitness Education through Bally International Health
and Fitness. Aerobic instructor and personal trainer by day, and dance performer
in the evenings and weekends, movement truly became a way of life. The experience
with Valois Company of Dance gave Susan her first taste of composing work and
setting pieces for a professional dance company.
During this time in her life, she also had the opportunity to meet and work with
Richard Simmons. He opened a series of health clubs in the Detroit Michigan and
Toledo Ohio areas. Susan held the position of Area Aerobic Supervisor for Vic
Tanny (Bally) International, so she worked closely with Richard in hiring, training,
and teaching instructors for all the clubs. The experience opened her eyes to
the special populations of people who need, crave, and love to move. "My
immediate post college experiences with a dance company and in the fitness industry
opened my mind and heart to the fact that movement and creativity are not exclusively
for the highly trained dancer, but to all populates. Everyone has something to
say, and movement is a very natural vehicle or tool for self expression."
Susan received further training in dance from University of South Florida, New
World School of Dance in Florida and Ohio Dance Festivals. She has attended numerous
workshops with Licensed Movement Therapist Fanchon Shur, Essence of Africa, Liz
Lerman Dance Exchange, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Gloria Esenwein, Shawn Womack,
Jeannie Speier (Dunham Technique) plus many more. She was recently commissioned
by the Hamilton Fairfield Symphony Orchestra to cast and choreograph its fall
2003 concert of Peter and the Wolf. She has additional certifications in Educational
Kinesiology, Exercise Safety, and Arts Integration in Education.
She has created and choreographed in the Cincinnati area for the past 15 years.
Past performances include; Drums For Peace concerts, National Day Without Art,
various performances with the School of Creative and Performing Arts, Cincinnati
Arts Consortium and Contemporary Dance Theater. A few of Susan's favorite performances
have been the Contemporary Dance Theater's Anniversary Concert, Grand Opening
of the Aronoff Center, The Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, past Choreographers Without
Companies concerts, all held at the Aronoff Center.
As of Spring 2000, Susan was a resident dance artist at the Schilling School
for Gifted Children, teaching grades K-12. Past school residencies include Fairfield
SPECTRA+, an arts integration program for Fairfield West Elementary and Fairfield
Kindergarten Center. "The experiences in the schools gave me the opportunity
to observe and explore new, inventive ways of teaching all populations of children.
The residencies also educated me in Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory,
Educational Kinesiology (movement and brain development) and Dabrowski's Theory
of Overexcitabilities in artists and the gifted. "This knowledge has become
so instrumental in how I write curriculum, teach and breathe life into new choreographic
work". Supporting (and sometimes collaborating with) all creative experiences
is soul mate Donald, and the jewel of their hearts, Max and Sam.
Presently
Susan is teaching as an Adjunct Faculty member of the University of
Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music, OMDA - Division, Movement I
Freshmen.
